Future of Community Center Blixems
How can we turn Community Center Blixems into a vibrant hub for and by our neighborhood?
As the board, we have been working on this question for some time. Should we let the center be managed by a commercial operator, or should we take over the management ourselves?
Currently, Community Center Blixems is managed by Lumens. The building is open five days a week, with occasional openings on weekends. During school holidays, it remains closed. Lumens’ management has announced its intention to stop managing community centers, and the municipality of Eindhoven has asked the neighborhood association if we want to take over the management of our community center, Blixems. Like in other community centers, the municipality aims to move toward a management model involving more volunteers.
In response, the board of our neighborhood association has initiated an investigation into the possibilities and challenges of managing the community center. Many community centers are already run by volunteers. For Blixems, a separate foundation could be established with its own board and a permanent manager employed by the foundation. Additionally, volunteers would be needed for supporting tasks such as maintenance, bar services, social media, creating and implementing improvement plans, etc.
We would like to involve our neighborhood residents in this process. On one hand, to think along with us about the requirements and wishes for future management, and on the other, to see which volunteers are willing to contribute. We are also looking for candidates for the new board.
To this end, we have organized an information and brainstorming evening on Tuesday, March 18 at 7:30 PM in Blixems. If you would like to participate, you can register via email at: voorzitter@blixembosch.com.
